Fortunately, there are numerous methods which you can bring into your daily lives which will help you manage your stress levels, in order to retain a healthier mind. Stress may result from pressures of your work or personal life; either way constant stress will damage your mental as well as physical well being. While mild levels of stress can be good as they motivate us, too much will result in conditions such as anxiety, fatigue, short temper and a few physical ailments. Dealing with your stresses in an effective way, will leave you with a healthier and balanced state of mind.

Know the cause of your stress

In order to get rid of the stress problem, we must first be aware of the cause. There are many things that will make us stress; these include your job and family relations for instance. To treat this problem in the most effective way, a daily diary should be kept and whenever you are put in a situation where it has stressed you, make a note of this, also making a note on how you behaved in that certain circumstance. When you are aware of all your stresses, then the relevant steps will be taken to sort them out.

Breathe in a controlled manner

One of the simplest ways of relieving stress is by means of breathing. Stress in our body usually triggers off rapid and shallow breathing. To combat this, we must ensure that we breathe out slowly so that we can relax our bodies. Ensure that you take a 3-4 second breath through your nose then hold it for about 4 seconds before breathing out of your mouth for about 4 seconds.

Do physical activity

One of the best ways to tackle your everyday stress is with physical activity. Physical activity results in a release of endorphins, which is a brain chemical which boosts our mood. It’s not necessary to have an overly physical workout, walking around the house will work just as well; exercise at least 3 times per week.

Sleep sufficiently

Should you be leading a terribly busy lifestyle then you may find yourself lacking in sleep, making you all the more prone to being stressed. You should be getting between 7-9 hours sleep per night. A good routine of sleep must also be maintained at all times. Getting a dark room, and also getting rid of electronics before you go to sleep are crucial.

Meditating
Practice mindfulness and meditation

Mindfulness teaches you to only live for the present moment so as to avoid past and future worries in your life. Meditation is a form of stress relief, by focusing solely on your breathing. While lying in a quiet place, symptoms will slowly vanish away and you will feel so relaxed. Set aside 10 minutes per day, and you’ll always remain cool in difficult situations.

Manage your time efficiently

In the modern day, many people will find themselves stressing out, by dealing with more and more tasks each day. To help deal with this, make a list of what you must do on a given day. Identify what tasks you will have to tackle first; doing so will prevent you from feeling overwelmed, and this will also make it appear as though the larger tasks seem to be of less a problem. If your schedule is becoming too hectic, you should look at cancelling some tasks.

Socialise

When stressed, speaking to someone you trust may make you feel a little better, and know that somebody has got your back. It is comforting to know that there is someone you can turn to; even if they cannot resolve your problem, the fact that someone else knows that you are stressed will greatly reduce the burden that you are carrying, and it may make you feel as though you are not stressing about the situation alone. Even further, conversation will also uplift your mood.

Have leisure time

Some personal time should be designated daily, which will be dedicated solely to your chosen hobby or relaxation. Whether it be playing a musical instrument, gardening or playing the sport, getting some me-time will provide some much-needed recharge time; this is important to help keep stress levels low.

Conclusion

Stress is not entirely bad however, it will cause harm to your mental well being when too much is present. There are various methods listed in the bullet points above which will help manage everyday stresses; some simple ones will also aid in mental health at later stages of life too.
