Food plays a crucial role in human life. It’s what sustains us and provides us with the energy to do and function. In the modern era of rapid lifestyle where everyone’s day is rushed, the option of consuming fast foods due to quickness and easy availability are chosen quite frequently. Fast foods are typically consumed everywhere by almost everyone these days and we see food being served as burgers, pizzas, French fries, noodles, sandwiches etc. on our tables. While there are so many alternatives at our disposal, the healthier, tastier and cheaper option is undoubtedly home-made food. Home-made food provides the much needed nourishment and is more suitable for our body in the long run. We will highlight the benefits of home-made food as opposed to fast foods.
The number one benefit home-made food offers over fast food is in its nutrition. With the help of vegetables, fruits, grains, pulses, dairy and other raw products at home we prepare foods that offer the body a well-balanced amount of proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins and fiber; essential components for bones, immunity, and overall lifestyle. In contrast, fast foods contain hardly any essential nutrients, rather very large amounts of calories, sugar, salt, and fats which may not be good for the body in the long run, such as diseases of obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and heart-related disorders, are only a few of them. The majority of fast foods contain chemicals as food preservatives that are not very suitable for the body and thus, to be very fit, home-made food wins the fight for the body.
The food we eat at home is generally very hygiene and safe as well. At home, the meals are prepared in a kitchen where hygienic conditions are well maintained, for example, while washing the vegetables, fruits, raw materials and other things including cooking utensils. Moreover, in our home, we are well aware of what we consume and what has been put in the food. Conversely, at the commercial kitchens where fast food is served, customers have no idea about the whole procedure as only a very small part is seen at the front. Though a strict rule is followed in the restaurants for maintaining good hygiene, sometimes we fail to rely on all the restaurants; sometimes they may use food items that are not of a high quality and cooking practices that might be quite harmful like the reuse of old oil which when repeatedly used is sure to harm us very badly and at many times can cause disorders.
Yet another benefit we get from the home-made food is that it is cheaper and more affordable than what we have at fast food restaurants. We save so much of our hard-earned money by cooking at home than by regularly buying meals from outside. A cost of one fast food meal can prepare an entire meal for the whole family. For a family that spends money carefully, home-made food would really work as a money saving strategy. Further, more the family members at home, lesser it would cost compared to packing lunch boxes separately for them and buying that from outside at a very high price.
We get variety and endless options to prepare meals at home. In our home, the food is prepared according to our preference, choice and the requirements of individual tastes. We can manage the quantity of salt, sugar, spices or any of the other ingredients at our homes. Also, you get to try so many recipes and learn about different cultures and food varieties. Fast foods can always give us a satisfying taste but there are hardly any options that we get at restaurants; every restaurant might provide the same standard menu. At home, we can have varieties that will surely enhance the beauty of cooking.
Furthermore, family bonding is also considered better if the food served to everyone is from our own kitchen. Preparing food at home can be an excellent recreational activity that allows us to spend quality time teaching the younger generation about cooking. This helps in developing strong relationships between the family members. As the family sits at the same table to eat together, it also adds to the family bonding. Fast food is more like a quick eating process, mostly eaten alone which could result in losing family time with our loved ones.

While there are so many points supporting home-made food over fast food, the time saving convenience of fast food cannot be denied. In today’s fast life, people have too little time to spare time on cooking. For this very reason, people find it much more easy to gobble down fast food whether in a shopping mall, in the city or via applications on mobile. Sometimes, when on a trip or when there’s a dire requirement with no food left in the house, one may prefer to eat from outside. But this shouldn’t be your regular meal. It would only be beneficial for health if eaten a maximum one to two times in a week.
With so many advantages of home-made food over fast food being presented above, it is quite apparent that home-made food will always fare better than fast food. Better health benefits and nutrients, good hygiene practices maintained at home, affordability, immense variety, good family relationships etc. are just some of the advantages of eating home-made food. It may be convenient and quick to eat fast food but in terms of health and emotional bonding, home-made food will surely never be surpassed. Home-made food are and will always be the best and most desirable thing for our body and mind.
